Frequently Asked Questions
At All Natural Dog Soap, we want to
help you and your dog live a happier healthier life!
You've got questions? We've got answers!
Here goes:
- How do I use this soap? - Just like any other bar soap. Wet, lather and rinse. However, you may need to use a bit more water at first, to get the lather going on your dog's fur. Just be sure to wet him well when you start the bath. The rest is cake!
- I just ordered some more soap and the bars look different then last time? - Every batch of soap is made by hand and each bar is unique. Also the ingredients tend to differ slightly, depending on the source and time of year. For example, Roman Chamomile can have a slightly different hue then German Chamomile. Calendula petals can range in color from light yellow to deep orange. It all depends on the source and the season.
- There is a white layer on the top of my soap bar. - This is called 'ashing' and it is a natural process of real soap. It does not alter the bar or pose any problems. If it appears, it will just wash off the first time you use it.
- My dog is white. Is there any soap just for his coat type? - Yes. Our Mint Julep soap is loaded with peppermint, which besides smelling great, is a natural whitener!
- Your soap feels different then what I've bought from the store. -You bet it does. Our soap is real soap, hand made with real human-grade ingredients. It feels different because what goes into it is superior, and it has no artificial chemicals or garbage fillers. PLUS it contains all the natural glycerine that real soap should. Your skin will definitely thank you.
- The soap I want is "Out Of Stock". It says a new batch is available in a few weeks. Why does it take so long to make it? - Real soap is made from a technique called 'cold process'. In this process, oils and butters are mixed with caustic lye to create a chemical reaction that heats the mixture and begins the process of 'saponification'. The soap can be handled in about 2 days, but it take several weeks of curing before the saponification process is complete and the soap is safe to use.
- What's with the rough tops? - This too is part of the natural soap making process. We could trim them off...but we'd rather you got more for your money.
- What's the difference between your soap and 'glycerine' soap? - Good Question. Actually, glycerine is a natural part of the soap making process. So all our soaps have glycerine in them. However, in the commercial soap world, the naturally occurring glycerine is stripped out of the soap. It is then packaged and sold back to you! So you're paying for it twice!
- Why do you use Goat's Milk? - Goat's Milk is super moisturizing and beneficial to the skin. It contains Alpha-Hydroxy acids, which clear away dead skin cells and rejuvenates the skin. It also is high in vitamins and minerals (including Vitamin A and Selenium). The addition of goat's milk to your soap can turn a 'good' bar into something really special!
- My dog is lactose intolerant. Can he use goat's milk soap? - Intolerance to lactose usually refers to ingesting it. I have never had any complaints about this soap on the fur or skin of someone who is lactose intolerant. However, if you have concerns, please ask your veterinarian.
- I LOVE YOUR SOAP and I use it on my dogs and myself. Just thought I should ask - Is it safe for people? - ABSOLUTELY! All our soaps are made from human-grade ingredients. It is 100% safe for human beings and you will find lots of recipes that you'll love, for your dog AND yourself. ENJOY!
- Can I use it on my cats? - If you are brave enough to bathe a cat, I bow to you! However, some essential oils are not safe for cats, as they metabolize them differently then dogs or people. We are not experts in cats. To be on the safe side, we recommend you use one of our soaps that has no essential oils in it, such as our Double Goat's Milk with Shea Butter, etc.
- I left my soap in the bottom of the tub and it got real soft. Why is that? - True natural soaps have no artificial preservatives in them. That means they are sensitive to moisture. If you leave them in the tub, where they are e
xposed to running water, they tend to get soft and melt away. The best way to protect your soap, and make it last, is to keep it dry when not in use. One of our great wooden soap dishes is will do this job quite nicely for you. - Why are salves important for dogs? - Dogs have specific issues that can be greatly helped by all natural salves and balms. Using infused oils, butters, herbs and essential oils, we can often help our dogs without the use of toxins, prescription medications, or costly vet office visits.
- Can people use them too? -SURE! Everything in our salves is safe for dogs and people. We hope you will enjoy them often.
- What if you don't have when I need? -We have plans to add several recipes to our product line, specific to dog's needs. These are being tested on our friends first. (HA!) However, if you need something custom made, we can do that too. Go to our Custom Salves page to learn more and get exactly what you want in your own custom formula.
- What are 'infused oils' and how do they work? -Another excellent question. Please read below:
- INFUSED OILS - Most of our salves and balms include 'infused' oils. This means we have taken whole dried herbs, like Calendula Petals, Arnica Weed or Comfrey Root, and infused them in an oil, usually Olive Oil. Then we either use glass jars in the sun, where they are hand stirred each day for about 6 weeks, or we use a slow heating method for several days to a week. This allows the herb to gently impart it's properties into the oils, without scorching or damaging the delicate botanical. We never use solvents or chemicals to extract those properties. We are respectful of the herb and the natural process, and are grateful for what they give us... when we ask politely.
